Monique Becker is the Manager of Program Implementation for Building Community Value (BCV) where she supports the overall operations of the organization. Monique was previously a Technical Assistant after successfully completing the training as part of the third cohort when she was awarded first place for her Virginia Park project. She has since gone on to establish a career focused on Detroit development.

 

Monique is Co-Founder of Mona Lisa Development, a socially responsible real estate development firm with property management, consulting and general contracting capabilities. A certified Detroit-Based, Detroit-Resident and Women-Owned business, Mona Lisa Development is committed to extending opportunities to other Detroiters and disadvantaged businesses. In its own projects and when acting as an advisor to clients, Mona Lisa Development preserves place and people in the creation of neighborhood masterpieces. Monique leads the firm’s development strategy and consulting work. She believes working alongside block clubs, community development corporations and community members is fundamental to building understanding, trust and sustained Detroit growth. Monique is a passionate community organizer who is focused on being a conduit of empowerment opportunities for Detroiters.  

 

Prior to launching Mona Lisa Development, Monique taught second grade in the City of Detroit before going on to join The Platform and later, Shelborne Development. At The Platform, she lead community engagement, investor relations for the company's $75 million fund and supported development management on several mixed-use, market rate deals. At Shelborne Development, she oversaw project architects, contractors, lenders, municipal partners and others to ensure maintenance of project vision and schedule across the portfolio. 

 

Monique approaches development holistically. As such, she maintains involvement in the educational and arts and culture sectors in Detroit. She sits on the board of Generation of Promise, a Focus:HOPE program, Detroit Techno Foundation and the Detroit Latin School. Monique graduated from the University of Michigan Literature, Science and the Arts Honors College with a dual degree in International Studies and Spanish.
